Mullin Once Challenged a Congressional Witness to a Fight in the Senate

Senator Mullin challenges Teamsters president to fight in 2023 hearing

Markwayne Mullin has had several headline-making moments as a senator, perhaps none more viral than when he challenged a witness in a Senate hearing to a fight.

Senate committee chairman Senator Rand Paul, a fellow Republican, recently posted a video of an altercation from 2023, when Mullin was questioning Teamsters union President Sean O'Brien during a committee hearing.

Mullin referenced a tweet O'Brien had directed at him, which said, "You know where to find me. Anyplace, Anytime cowboy."

"So this is a time, this is a place," Mullin responded. "You wanna run your mouth, we can be two consenting adults. We can finish it here."

"Okay, that’s fine," O'Brien replied. "Perfect."

The two continued to exchange provocations until Mullin stood up and appeared ready to approach the witness. At that point, committee chair Senator Bernie Sanders intervened, telling Mullin to sit down.

"Sit down! You're a United States senator, sit down," Sanders shouted.

Mullin later defended his threat as reflecting "Oklahoma values."

"You're not going to run your mouth at me and expect me to sit there," he told Fox News' Sean Hannity. "And you should have seen the fear in his eyes when I stood up. I'm not joking."

Before today's hearing began, O'Brien and Mullin shook hands.

Just now, Mullin told Paul that since that confrontation, the two men have become friends and communicate regularly.
